Product Compliance located in purchasing

In many companies, product compliance still ends up in purchasing. Sounds pragmatic, but it's like a house of cards in a crosswind. Why?

Purchasing and Product Compliance follow completely different internal compasses. While purchasing focuses on price, speed and availability, compliance demands depth, documentation and a patient eye for navigating the maze of standards. When both are combined in one role, a silent conflict of objectives arises that invites risk.

The consequences often only become apparent when product requirements are examined in detail and gaps suddenly appear that no one has consciously taken responsibility for. This is risky for the company and unfair to purchasing.

Product compliance requires its own responsibility, clear decision-making scope and a voice that is not drowned out by purchasing goals. Otherwise, risk management becomes a matter of chance.

💡 Those who establish Product Compliance independently gain more clarity, safety and freedom of action.
